Stupid Shells Brewing

Homebrewing is more than just making beer. Each brew is an engineering problem to produce the best product possible with the given budget and materials available.


When I first began homebrewing I started with liquid extract brews. This means I boiled liquid malt extract and added hops. At this point the mixture is called word. The wort was then allowed to cool and then yeast was added. This mixture was allowed to ferment in a carboy for one week. After a week the fermenting beer was moved to a secondary fermentor to produce a clearer beer. After two weeks in secondary priming sugar was added to the brew to produce CO2 and the beer was bottled for drinking.

All Grain

After gaining experience with extract brews I made the move to all grain brewing.  This level of brewing is the same process used to brew commercial beers.
